19TH MAY 1977

Yes, 33 years ago today, it was visiting hours and I was worrying about feeding our new baby girl who was born at 16.20 at the Mowbray Maternity Hospital in Cape Town. It was a very exciting time in our lives and when a baby is born one really does come to understand miracles as they are just that. Wendy looked like a little eskimo baby, she had pitch black hair and lots of it. I know the photo I have scanned and put in here is when she was around 2 and a bit but I could not find her baby photos and I wanted to do my blog now and not tomorrow which is what will happen if I have to start the big search for the perfect photo.

In those days one stayed in hospital for a few days after having ones baby. You were taught to bath, change and feed your new baby. I personally think mothers are sent home a little too early nowadays. One needs the pampering and rest and advice from the ones that know it all for once you leave the sanctity of the hospital one does flounder a bit with ones first born.

Where those 33 years have disappeared to I do not know, but I know this my love and admiration for my daughter grows every day and I only wish her love, health and happiness.

Happy Birthday darling Wendy, this time next week you will be winging your way home again and I cannot wait to see your beautiful face and give you a big big hug. I hope you had a wonderful birthday (in spite of us not being there ;) ) and I am sure you have been very spoilt.

The resemblance between Wendy and Lily is striking - both beautiful!

When my Mom had her first child in 1947, they stayed in the hospital for two weeks. By the time she had me in 1958, it was down to one week. Now they have legislation to keep hospitals from treating maternity wards like drive through windows!

Have a wonderful family reunion!
